Thermal Imaging Surveys

Thermal imaging cameras are used in the building industry to diagnose areas where energy or heat is lost, test the building envelope, find out if there is any excess moisture, to look for flood damage, to assist in the location of electrical problems or diagnostic engineering. Temperature anomalies in a building can be investigated and any areas that are particularly hot or cold can be assessed.

With these cameras it is possible to scan large areas quite quickly and the process is non-intrusive. Methods used are quick and simple mostly using sensitive and high spatial resolution thermal imaging cameras. The assessment may involve examining both internal and external walls and weather conditions can make quite a difference to the survey results. Often the results will need to be considered alongside environmental factors and technical information.

Thermal imaging cameras help us detect issues and defects we can’t see with the naked eye.

Among these, we have:

  • Reviewing energy efficiency

  • Detecting cold spots prone to condensation

  • Finding missing insulation or inefficient building materials

  • identifying hidden defects

  • Identifying issues with underfloor heating circuits

  • Spotting overloaded electrical circuits

  • Finding hidden pipework

  • Locating hidden structural timbers

  • Locating rodents and pest activity
